Explicit rights

As default setting, rights are inherited. With “Explicit Rights” rights are not inherited, but rights must be set “explicitly”.

Examples: User A has rights to the top root folder of a folder tree. If he has inherited rights, he automatically receives access to every new folder below. If “Explicit Rights” are set in the root folder, no user receives rights to a folder created directly below the root folder. If rights are inserted below the root folder in which “Explicit Rights” are set, this user receives access to all folders below this folder.

You can therefore interrupt the inheritance downwards in a folder tree by setting “Explicit Rights”. You can set explicit rights at any point within a folder tree.

If “Explicit Rights” are set in a folder, the rights holders of this folder have access to the files directly below this folder, but not automatically to the folders below the folder.

WARNING: If “Explicit Rights” are set within an existing folder tree, you have to decide whether the previous users should continue to have access or lose access, which results in desynchronization or the respective folder not being displayed.
